Alleged sponsorship: Ooni’s ex-wife, others in trouble as 32 children die in Ibadan funfair

Prophetess Naomi Shikemi, a former queen of the Ooni of Ife, and Oriyomi Hamzat, a broadcaster from Ibadan, have been accused of being the sponsors of the tragic Ibadan funfair that resulted in the deaths of numerous children.

Reports indicate that a stampede at the event in the Bashorun area of the city led to the loss of 32 young lives.

Governor Seyi Makinde mentioned that the organizers are in custody, without disclosing their identities.

“While investigations are ongoing, the primary organisers of the event that led to this stampede have been taken into custody“, he said.

However, it is believed that Prophetess Naomi and Hamzat were the ones behind the event. Agidigbo FM, owned by Hamzat, clarified that they were only a media partner for the event.

“Amidst the tragedy, the news making the rounds is that Agidigbo FM is the organiser of the children’s funfair.

“However, the management wishes to state that Agidigbo FM is not the organiser of the event but one of the media outfits used to promote the event”, management of Agidigbo FM said in a statement.

According to reports, the victims were stampeded to death while trying to break through the main gate of Islamic High School, Bashorun, where the event took place.
