President Joe Biden has pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, following his conviction in two federal cases earlier this year.
The White House announced this decision on Sunday night. Hunter, 54, had admitted guilt in a felony tax case in September and was also convicted for making a false statement in a gun case.
This move to pardon his son contradicts Biden’s earlier statements to the media where he had declared that he would not pardon his first son, as reported by Fox News.
“Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter,” he wrote in a statement.
“From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted.”
“It is clear that Hunter was treated differently.”
