A female student named Awele Irene Itegbe from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has sparked a flurry of reactions online due to her sartorial selection on the day of her final year costume event.
Awele, who is recognized as a social media influencer, opted to share her recreation of a viral image featuring the controversial crossdresser Bobrisky, which had surfaced during his apprehension by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on the microblogging platform X (previously referred to as Twitter).
It is worth noting that Bobrisky had been detained and imprisoned by the EFCC a few months back on charges related to currency manipulation, to which he pleaded guilty and received a six-month jail sentence.
Subsequently, a mugshot of the crossdresser holding a placard outlining his transgressions came to light.
Notwithstanding, the final year student appeared to draw inspiration from Bobrisky’s infamous mugshot, as she chose to emulate it in her own costume attire.
She uploaded two images; one displaying the original close-up headshot of Bobrisky, while the other depicted Awele’s reimagined photographs.
In contrast to Bobrisky’s involvement in ‘naira mutilation‘, Irene’s purported offense was ‘alleged BBL’. Furthermore, the date of Bobrisky’s arrest was noted as the 4th of April, 2024, whereas the UNILAG student’s arrest occurred on the 10th of July, 2024.
The student elucidated her rationale for incorporating a slight variation in her mugshot by opting for EFEC instead of EFCC.
“Efec because quite frankly I’m not ready to do #freeawele,” she captioned the post.
