Copa America 2024: Uruguay striker, Nunez fights with Colombia fans after defeat

Following Uruguay’s defeat against Colombia in the Copa America semi-final on Wednesday night, striker Darwin Nunez found himself in the middle of a scuffle with fans. The match ended with a 1-0 victory for Colombia, with Jefferson Lerma scoring the winning goal in the first half.

After the final whistle blew, Nunez and teammate Ronald Araujo were among the Uruguay players who confronted a group of Colombian fans inside the Bank of America Stadium. Nunez was seen getting into a physical altercation with the fans before police intervened to break up the altercation.

Uruguay captain Jose Gimenez later revealed that the players got involved in the confrontation because their families, who were seated near the Colombian fans, were in danger during the match.

“Please, I ask you to be careful. Families are in the stands. Our families are in danger. This is a disaster,” Gimenez told Directv.
