Phil Foden, a player from Manchester City, has been honored with the Footballer Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year accolade for the 2023/24 season.
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, also representing Manchester City, emerged victorious in the women’s category.
Securing 42 percent of the votes from members, Foden becomes the third Manchester City player in a span of four years to claim the prestigious Men’s Footballer of the Year award, following the footsteps of Ruben Dias in 2021 and Erling Haaland in 2023.
The talented playmaker outperformed Arsenal’s midfielder, Declan Rice, and his Manchester City teammate, Rodri, who secured the second and third positions respectively, while Martin Odegaard, Ollie Watkins, and Cole Palmer rounded up the top six contenders.
At the age of 23, Foden has showcased his prowess by netting 16 goals in the Premier League this season, in addition to providing seven assists.
Furthermore, he has demonstrated his skill in the Champions League by scoring five goals and assisting three, along with securing two goals in the FA Cup.
