Drake attributed his recent gambling misfortune to the “[Justin] Bieber curse” on his Instagram Story on Sunday, after losing a $1 million wager on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The team suffered a crushing 6-1 defeat to the Florida Panthers. Earlier that day, Drake had posted his betslip on social media, showing he backed the Leafs to win outright and also placed a smaller bet on them winning by at least two goals.

Panthers forward Brad Marchand played a pivotal role in the victory, contributing one goal and two assists. This marked the fifth occasion he has eliminated the Maple Leafs in a Game 7, having previously done so with the Boston Bruins in 2013, 2018, 2019, and 2024, as reported by ESPN.

After the game, he said, “I grew up a Leafs fan. I enjoy playing against the Leafs. I enjoy interacting with fans. Like, it’s fun. It’s not something I’ll forever get to do.” With this win, the Panthers have advanced to the Eastern Conference finals, where they will face the Carolina Hurricanes.

Justin Bieber, a dedicated Maple Leafs supporter, was present at Sunday’s game. He reacted to the team’s loss in an Instagram post, writing: “I don’t remember a time in my life when I haven’t been obsessed with the leafsssss. This year we made it farther than we have in so long and im happy about that. I can be patient cuz I know this is the team to do it.”

Prior to his Maple Leafs bet, Drake made waves over the weekend by collaborating with Kai Cenat to promote the upcoming music video for his track with PartyNextDoor, “SOMEBODY LOVES ME.” The song appears on his latest album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.

During a livestream, Cenat announced he would be offering $15,000 to 20 fans who send in creative short clips with ideas for the video. Drake reposted the clip on Instagram, captioning it: “CALLING ALL VI$$$IONARIES.”
