FG reopens Independence Bridge after massive gridlock

Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works, has ordered the immediate reopening of the Independence Bridge in Lagos to ease traffic congestion.

Originally scheduled for closure for maintenance until the end of May 2025, the bridge was shut down earlier this week causing widespread delays.

The decision to reopen the bridge comes after public outcry and massive gridlock across key routes in Victoria Island and its surroundings.

Thousands of commuters experienced delays stretching from Lekki to the mainland, including major thoroughfares like Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku.

Kesha expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and appealed for public understanding regarding future maintenance plans for the bridge.
