Known for hits like ‘Get It Sexyy,’ ‘Skeeyee,’ and ‘Poundtown,’ Sexyy Red is shaping up to be one of the most prominent female Rap artists of the 2020s.
Despite this, the St. Louis native feels that the public’s perception of her is often negative.
During a recent interview on ‘Big Boy’s Neighborhood,’ Sexyy Red discussed her career, collaborations with artists like SZA and Drake, and the challenges of balancing motherhood with fame. She also addressed the scrutiny she faces for her provocative image both on and off stage.
As her success continues to grow, so does the criticism she receives, but Sexyy Red remains focused on her art and unapologetically herself.
“I feel like [negative comments] are getting bigger,” she said (as seen in the video above). “I feel like I’m the most hated female rapper. They hate on me the most. I get a lot of love, but I know when they be hating on me. It be like little inside sh-t. They trying to put me down. I be feeling like is y’all sending people to comment under [my social media pages]? I feel like it’s some hidden agendas.”
When quizzed on where she think the hate comes from, Sexyy believes there’s more than one source.
“It could be labels, it could be everybody. I just be feeling like motherf-ckers be trying to bring me down. They don’t like seeing me win, and I be seeing people say that in the comments like ‘whey do y’all hate her so much,’” she relayed.
All-in-all, the 26-year-old doesn’t let the naysayers leave her feeling defeated.
“I been knew I was the sh-t; can’t nobody take that from me,” she said.
