Actress and film producer, Funke Akindele, has unveiled her latest cinematic creation, Everybody Loves Jenifa, scheduled for release in December.
Nevertheless, the actress refrained from divulging further details regarding the film, particularly regarding its initial screening location, whether it will debut in cinemas or on digital streaming platforms.
The origins of Everybody Loves Jenifa can potentially be traced back to the comedic series Jenifa, which later evolved into The Return of Jenifa, as well as a television show, Jenifa’s Diary.
The inaugural installment of this series showcased Funke Akindele in the role of Jenifa, a rural dweller who journeyed to the urban landscape in pursuit of prosperity.
Her escapades led her to become entwined with a group of morally questionable women, resulting in a myriad of challenges and triumphs.
Jenifa garnered four nominations at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009, encompassing recognition for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Original Soundtrack, and Best Nigerian Film.
The cast consisted of Iyabo Ojo, Ronke Odusanya, Eniola Badmus, Mosunmola Filani, and Ireti Osayemi.
The small screen adaptation featured Funke Akindele alongside Juliana Olayode, Lota Chukwu, Paschaline Alex, Lolo1, Falz, Joy Nice, and Michael Uba.
Funke Akindele’s most recent project, A Tribe Called Judah, premiered in theaters in December 2023, swiftly shattering box office records within a mere 21 days of its debut. Notably, it marked the first Nollywood production to exceed the N1 billion mark in earnings.
The triumph of this film eclipsed the financial achievements of the actress’s prior works such as Battle on Buka Street (N668.4m) and Omo Ghetto (N636.1m), currently positioned as the second and third highest-grossing films in Nigerian cinema, respectively.
A Tribe Called Judah showcased a talented ensemble including Nse Ikpe Etim, Funke Akindele, Timini Egbuson, Ebelle Okaro, Uzor Arukwe, Genoveva Umeh, and Nosa Rex, among others, and is presently available for viewing on Prime Video.
