JUST IN: Kenyan’s Bernard Sang wins 2024 Lagos City Marathon

Bernard Sang from Kenya emerged as the winner of the Access Bank 2024 Lagos City Marathon, beating around 80 other top marathoners.

He completed the 42km race in 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 49 seconds, earning the grand prize of $50,000 (N72.48 million).

Simon Cheprot and Edwin Kiptoo, also from Kenya, secured the second and third positions, with each winning $40,000 and $30,000, respectively.

Sang had previously finished third in the 2023 edition.

Ethiopia’s Kebene Chala, a 25-year-old woman, was the first female runner to cross the finish line, and she too claimed the $50,000 prize.

Both the men’s and women’s winners qualified for the marathon event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Shehu Muazu was the first Nigerian runner to finish and received a cash prize of N1 million.

The race commenced at the National Stadium in Surulere and concluded at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.
