You’re undergoing hardship for unborn generations to enjoy prosperity – Tinubu tells Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu asserted that the current challenges faced by Nigerians are a necessary sacrifice for the betterment and prosperity of future generations.

He made these remarks during the opening of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) annual conference in Abuja.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of implementing reforms initiated by his administration in order to achieve the desired state of the nation.

He also highlighted the elimination of poverty as a key goal for Nigeria’s path to prosperity, stressing the need for collaboration between private sector leaders.

President Tinubu expressed his belief that the impactful decisions made during his tenure will ultimately lead to growth for the country, even if the current population faces difficulties, with eventual benefits to be enjoyed by all.

“It is painful at the beginning, in the short and medium term, but we must do what we have to do to take this nation to its great destiny,” said the president.

“It is not about you, and it is not about me. It is about our generations yet unborn, for whom we must bequeath a great and prosperous country,” he added.

“We must make the very difficult changes that are necessary for our country to get up from slumber and be respected among the great nations of the world,” Mr Tinubu added.

Since his assumption of office on May 29, the hardship citizens faced was compounded by the removal of fuel subsidy, which further resulted in the skyrocketing costs of fuel, transportation, and commodities.

Mr Tinubu, during his inauguration, announced an end to the payment of subsidies on fuel, noting that only the rich were benefiting from the opportunity at the expense of the poor in the country.
