BREAKING: Chaos hits Senate over Keyamo’s ministerial screening

Controversy has arisen in the Senate regarding the screening of Festus Keyamo, a nominee for a ministerial position.

This confusion has led to the Chamber entering into an executive session after Senator Bamidele Opeyemi, the Senate leader, proposed a motion.

Prior to the chaos, Keyamo was asked to address the Chamber in order to explain his background and provide reasons as to why he should become a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Following his speech, Senator Darlington Nwokocha of the Labour Party, who represents the Abia Central Senatorial District, raised a point of order.

Nwokocha brought to the attention of the Senate certain violations committed by Keyamo against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during his tenure as the Minister of State for Employment, Labour, and Productivity.

The legislator detailed how Keyamo obstructed the Reps Committee from performing its oversight role regarding the N52 billion allocated to his Ministry.

Having explained this, he moved that the screening of Keyamo be stepped down in line with parliamentary rules.

The motion was seconded by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Amid the uproar, Senate President adopted a motion that the Chamber be dissolved into executive session and ordered that the nominee be taken out of the Chamber by the Sergent-At-Arms.
