Arsenal defeat Manchester City to win Community Shield

On Sunday, Arsenal emerged victorious in the Community Shield after defeating Manchester City 4-1 in a penalty shootout. This victory marks the first significant clash between the two clubs this season.

Although Manchester City had the majority of possession in the first half, Arsenal had better scoring opportunities. Kai Havertz, their notable summer signing, missed two chances to score a debut goal as Stefan Ortega saved both of his attempts.

In the second half, Pep Guardiola’s team displayed more determination, with John Stones’ header being saved. However, it was substitute Cole Palmer who broke the deadlock with a skillful shot from outside the box, leaving Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale unable to stop it.

Despite falling behind, Arsenal continued to push forward and showed resilience by equalizing in stoppage time through a deflected shot. This forced the match to a penalty shootout, which Arsenal ultimately won. Kevin de Bruyne’s attempt hit the crossbar, and Ramsdale saved a weak penalty from Rodri.
